Robbery near EMU campus

EMU Police Timely Warning to Campus Community – September 8, 2009

Unarmed Robbery (Occurred off campus – City of Ypsilanti)

The Ypsilanti Police reported that an unarmed robbery occurred this morning at about 1:00a.m., in the 300 block of Perrin St, in the City of Ypsilanti. An EMU student walking on the sidewalk along Perrin St., texting on his cell phone, was robbed of his cell phone. The suspect grabbed his cell phone and punched him in the head and ran off south toward Emmet St. The victim’s injuries were not serious, not requiring medical treatment.

The victim and witnesses described the suspect as being a African-American male, approximately 18 years of age, light-skinned, 6-feet-tall, long dreadlocks in his hair, wearing blue jeans, a light or white colored t-shirt, and a red baseball cap turned backward.

Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested

(From the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department)

On 9/2/09 Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Trester and Sgt. Bell, with the assistance from the Ypsilanti Police Department and FBI, arrested the suspect from the bank robberies that took place on 8/28/09 and 8/31/09 in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The 41-year old suspect was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail and will be arraigned Friday morning.

On August 28, 2009, at approximately 4:15 PM, Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office Deputies responded to the Key Bank located on Washtenaw Ave near Hewitt Road in Ypsilanti Township for a bank robbery.

It was reported a black male walked into the bank, indicated to the teller that he had a gun, and demanded money. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect fled to a waiting vehicle parked nearby on Fairfield Street.

The vehicle is described as a newer 2000 or later Pontiac G6 2 door, silver or gold metallic paint with an unknown plate.

The suspect is described as a black male, 28 to 35-years old, approximately 5’8” thin/med build. He has a dark complexion, mustache and a deep voice. He was wearing a dark green front zip hooded sweats, dark jeans, white shoes and a white brimmed hat (not a base ball hat).

On August 31, 2009, at approximately 1:00 PM, Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office Deputies responded to the TCF Bank located on Packard Road near Hewitt Road in Ypsilanti Township for a bank robbery.

It was reported a black male walked into the bank, handed the teller a note demanding money. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect fled possibly to a waiting vehicle parked nearby.

The suspect is described as a black male, 28 to 35-years old, approximately 5’8” thin/med build. He has a dark complexion; He was wearing a black jacket with “Champion” in gold lettering on the back and a black painter’s style hat.
