Robbery near EMU campus

EMU Police Timely Warning to Campus Community – September 8, 2009

Unarmed Robbery (Occurred off campus – City of Ypsilanti)

The Ypsilanti Police reported that an unarmed robbery occurred this morning at about 1:00a.m., in the 300 block of Perrin St, in the City of Ypsilanti. An EMU student walking on the sidewalk along Perrin St., texting on his cell phone, was robbed of his cell phone. The suspect grabbed his cell phone and punched him in the head and ran off south toward Emmet St. The victim’s injuries were not serious, not requiring medical treatment.

The victim and witnesses described the suspect as being a African-American male, approximately 18 years of age, light-skinned, 6-feet-tall, long dreadlocks in his hair, wearing blue jeans, a light or white colored t-shirt, and a red baseball cap turned backward.

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact the Ypsilanti Police at (734) 483-9510.

• Be aware of your surroundings and look assertive

• Walk with friends or coworkers when possible. Contact SEEUS for nighttime escorts. 487-3387

• Trust your intuition, if a particular situation makes you feel uncomfortable, choose an alternative.

• If you feel threatened on campus, look for a blue light phone to call for assistance.
